House of Low Culture
Aaron Turner & Faith Coloccia currently pilot two music projects in tandem;
House of Low Culture & Mamiffer. Turner, widely known for founding Hydra
Head Records in 1993 and the band Isis in 1997, first released music as HoLC
in 2000. Started as a solo venture but operating as an open collaboration,
HoLC has since settled into a duo of Turner & Coloccia that also cycles added allies.
While Mamiffer composes long-form ballads based on Coloccia’s piano melodies,
HoLC takes a looser approach by stacking looped effects, sustained guitar tones
and chants in the drift.

Negativwobblyland

Negativwobblyland is a collaboration between Peter Conheim of the sampling art collective Negativland and Jon Leidecker of Wobbly (with satellite members from Negativland often expanding the group to a trio). The duo eschews the cut-and-paste mass media collage of their previous work to celebrate the unpredictable magic of the Booper, an instrument invented by Negativland’s The Weatherman in 1975. Boopers are 100% analog feedback instruments, created entirely from salvaged radio and amplifier parts, which recycle their outputs back upon themselves to generate an endlessly changing stream of living electronic sound, seeking connections back to the earliest years of the medium. Further captured and transformed by live sampling (itself a form of feedback), the duo’s music is inherently improvisatory.

Sult
Jacob Felix Heule: percussion
Guro Skumsnes Moe: contrabass
Håvard Skaset: acoustic guitar

Sult is a Norwegian/American trio playing sound-oriented improvised music: Acoustic noise drawing inspiration from contemporary music, electroacoustic improv, and drone. Their music reflects great patience, deep listening, and complete trust in one another. Their individual sounds alternately cohere into unified group textures, and run precariously aside one another as independent streams. The group has been working together since January 2008, and has played throughout Europe and America. They are dedicated to developing their band through touring, in order to explore their music as deeply as possible. In the spring of 2012, they toured the US and Scandinavia, and released their first album, Bark, on Bug Incision. A new LP, Harm, is forthcoming this spring on Bocian Records.

Members of the trio have performed extensively with their own projects Ettrick, Basshaters, Bluefaced People, and MOE; and have collaborated with musicians such as Fred Frith, Bill Orcutt, Maja S. K. Ratkje, Okkyung Lee, Ikue Mori, Barn Owl, Michel Doneda, Jack Wright, and Gino Robair.
